Opposition leader and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail has strongly condemned the recent strike on Iran, directly blaming the United States and Israel for what he described as continued acts of aggression against the Muslim world. His remarks, posted on Sunday via X, formerly known as Twitter, came in response to reported US airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities.
Fayyaz, a presidential hopeful in the upcoming election, was the only major political figure in the Maldives to speak out on the issue. His statement quickly gained traction on social media, drawing praise and support across political lines.
“There is no peace in immoral strength but only subjugation,” Fayyaz wrote. “The UN is no longer a guardian of peace. It is a tool of empire. It gives cover to genocide and war crimes when committed by powerful states and their allies.”
He criticised the ongoing divisions within the Muslim world, saying: “While Muslims argue over sects, the Muslim world is burning and being forcibly reshaped. Iraq, Libya, Syria and Lebanon destroyed. Iran under siege and probably Turkiye next on the radar. And the whole world watches genocide live on social media.”
Calling for a fundamental shift in international strategy, Fayyaz argued that relying on the United Nations for justice was futile.
“The solution isn’t begging the UN for justice—it’s building new alliances between countries that share faith, values, and a common threat,” he said.
He concluded with a direct denunciation of the latest escalation: “Strongly condemn the aggression against Iran and the Iranian people by the United States of America and the Zionists. The world cannot have peace without peace to the Palestinians.”
Fayyaz’s remarks have been widely shared and positively received online, with many Maldivians applauding his outspoken stance.
