The Jumhooree Party (JP) has announced the appointment of campaign managers for the upcoming presidential election. The party’s leader and presidential candidate, Qasim Ibrahim, has chosen his deputy leader Ameen Ibrahim and special envoy Ilham Ahmed as campaign managers for the country’s north and south regions respectively.
According to Qasim’s special political advisor Riyaz Rasheed, the appointment of the two campaign managers will boost the JP’s efforts to secure a victory in the upcoming election. He added that the newly-appointed managers will work tirelessly to ensure Qasim’s victory in the September 9 election.
After his appointment as the campaign manager for the south, Ilham took to Twitter to express his gratitude towards Qasim. He stated that he is committed to bringing the party’s leader to power and will leave no stone unturned in his efforts.
The JP is currently in discussions with other political parties to form a coalition for the upcoming election. The party has also engaged in talks with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) President Mohammed Nasheed. Nasheed, who is also the Parliament speaker, has announced that he will not support President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih after losing the party’s ticket to him.
Meanwhile, the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), who has formed an alliance with People’s National Congress (PNC), says it will not be affiliating with any other political party. Instead, they aim for their leader, former president Abdulla Yameen, to run in the election. However, it is uncertain whether Yameen will be able to contest. The former president he is currently serving a jail term, with several cases still pending against him.
