Afshan Lateef, the CEO of the Local Government Authority (LGA), has tendered her resignation, citing the need to devote more time to her family and personal pursuits. Her resignation will take effect on Thursday.
Afshan, who was appointed to the post on June 9, served in various administrative capacities for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) before assuming her current role. Her husband, Hussain Amr, was dismissed from his position as the Managing Director of State Trading Organization (STO) after supporting former President Mohamed Nasheed during the MDP’s presidential primary.
In comments to several media outlets, Afshan expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to serve as CEO of the LGA, and highlighted her dedication to the MDP and its goals. She did not indicate any specific plans for the future.
The LGA is responsible for overseeing local governance and implementing policies at the municipal level. The agency has been involved in various initiatives aimed at improving services and promoting transparency in local government.
