The Maldives has strongly condemned the burning of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip by Israeli forces, an attack that forced patients and medical staff to evacuate. The government described the act as a serious violation of international humanitarian and human rights law.

“Such attacks on vital healthcare facilities constitute a war crime and are a part of the ongoing relentless aggression against the Palestinian people,” a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The government called on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to take immediate and decisive action to halt Israel’s aggression in Gaza. It urged global powers to protect Palestinian civilians and hold those responsible for the attack accountable.

The Maldives reiterated its unwavering support for the Palestinian people, reaffirming that a just and lasting peace can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital and based on the pre-1967 borders.

Since the start of its war on Gaza on 7 October 2023, Israel, backed and armed by the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and other Western governments, has killed more than 45,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and wounded nearly 108,000 others. Israeli forces have also destroyed nearly 85 percent of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure, including homes, hospitals, schools, and places of worship, while also blocking the entry of essential aid into the occupied enclave, starving the population of 2.5 million people.
