The Maldives has condemned the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque courtyards by Israeli settlers, characterising the action as a “flagrant violation of international law” and a provocation aimed at undermining the sanctity of the site.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, the government said, “Such acts constitute a flagrant violation of international law and are provocative attempts to undermine the sanctity and historical status of Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
The statement denounced Israeli settlers, who were under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, for repeated violations and for attacking “the religious rights of the Palestinian people and Muslims worldwide.”
The Maldives urged the international community to “take decisive measures to hold the occupying forces accountable for their actions, protect religious sanctities and ensure adherence to international law and international human rights law.”
In the statement, the government reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian cause, advocating for the establishment of an independent state for the Palestinian people. “A just and lasting resolution to the conflict can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” it said.
On Friday, the Maldives issued a similar statement condemning the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israel’s hardline National Security Minister, under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.
