The Malé Swimming Track has been temporarily closed by the Swimming Association of Maldives (SAM) in order to ensure public safety. The decision comes after discussions involving the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment, Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), and the Utility Regulatory Authority.
Contaminants in the water, attributed to unusual weather patterns, were discovered through tests conducted by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), prompting the proactive closure.
SAM advises the public to refrain from using the popular swimming area until further notice.
