Marine Police have rescued a group of 14 individuals, comprising 10 Russian divers and four local dive instructors, who were adrift in the waters off an uninhabited island near Gan, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
The operation commenced on Saturday morning when a Marine Police speedboat, en route from Fuvahmulah to Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, spotted a diver adrift near Gan. Upon rescuing the diver, police were alerted to the presence of additional individuals stranded in the vicinity.
A comprehensive search and rescue mission ensued, culminating in the rescue of the entire group. The individuals were subsequently transported to Gadhdhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, confirmed a police spokesperson. “All rescued individuals are in safe condition,” he added, reassuring that the health and safety of the divers and instructors were successfully secured.
The boat used by the divers for their expedition was also located and towed by the police.
