Ahmed Aiman, a 30-year-old resident of Malé who had been reported missing on Tuesday, was found dead in an abandoned building in the city, according to the Maldives Police Service (MPS). The police confirmed the identity of the deceased following a forensic analysis.
Aiman’s family had reported him missing early Tuesday, with his last sighting at his residence around 9:30 p.m. on 16 May. The circumstances surrounding Aiman’s death remain under investigation, and the police have yet to disclose any further details.
Aiman’s body was found during a search operation at Rabeeu Villa, an abandoned residence in the Maafannu Ward. The operation was initiated following a tip-off about a potential dead body at the location. Notably, this building had also been the site of a fire incident on 10 April, despite being reportedly unused at the time.
The incident marks the third dead body found in Malé City within a week, following the discovery of an unidentified body at the Bandeyri Koshi Complex on 13 May and an expatriate in Hulhumalé on 15 May.
