“We are not the only winners. Turkey is the winner. Our nation with all its segments is the winner. Our democracy is the winner,” Erdogan proclaimed.

Turkey’s Supreme Election Council (YSK) Chairman, Ahmet Yener, confirmed Erdogan’s re-election on Sunday evening. Yener stated that Erdogan emerged victorious in the second-round runoff vote against opposition challenger Kemal Kilicdaroglu.

Unofficial results indicate that the Turkish incumbent secured 52.14% of the vote, while Kilicdaroglu received 47.86%, with 99.43% of the ballot boxes counted.

First round

The initial round of the election, held on May 14, did not yield a clear winner. No candidate secured the 50% majority. This triggered a presidential runoff. However, Erdogan already held a significant lead with 49.52% of the vote. Concurrent parliamentary elections were also held on the same day. It resulted in Erdogan’s electoral alliance winning a majority of seats.

Erdogan emphasised the significance of the election, describing it as one of the most decisive in Turkey’s multi-party political history. He highlighted that the nation had already demonstrated its preference by granting the majority of seats in the Turkish Grand National Assembly to the People’s Alliance. This was during the first round.
