The International Aid Campaign (IAC), a Maldives-based aid organisation, has distributed US$100,000 (MVR 1.5 million) to 200 Palestinian families affected by the ongoing Israeli military aggression in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

These funds were raised in the wake of devastating Israeli attacks that have resulted in the deaths of over 3,000 Palestinians and left more than 13,750 injured. Over a million people have been displaced, many left without basic necessities as Israel cuts off water and electricity supplies to Gaza.

“The funds will help to alleviate the immediate needs of affected families, including those who have lost loved ones or have seen their homes destroyed,” a spokesperson from IAC said. The assistance was distributed in regions with open and functioning markets, enabling families to purchase necessary goods. IAC representatives in Palestine were in charge of the distribution.

Maldivians have donated more than MVR 13 million to the IAC fund opened following the Israeli military offensive. The IAC has previously provided essential items such as food and fuel, although one of their warehouses filled with humanitarian supplies was recently destroyed in an Israeli attack.

To further boost fundraising efforts, a telethon event was organised involving various media outlets in the Maldives. The event successfully raised MVR 12,989,372.72 and US$8,672.38. Notably, the State Trading Organisation (STO) donated MVR 1 million on behalf of their employees, shareholders, and subsidiaries.

The Maldivian government and its citizens continue to show unconditional support to the Palestinian people. The Government of Maldives recently issued a statement strongly condemning Israel’s actions, which they term as “war crimes” and “blatant violations of international humanitarian law.”
