A kidnapping victim has been rescued, and three local men, aged 22, 27, and 30, have been apprehended in connection with the abduction, the Maldives Police Service has confirmed.
The victim, a Maldivian male, was kidnapped from a guesthouse and subsequently relocated to a local residence in Malé and held hostage. Details from the court warrant reveal that the kidnappers attempted to extort money from their captive.
Authorities have remained tight-lipped about further details, citing an ongoing investigation. However, during the remand hearing, police disclosed that the suspects forcibly entered the guesthouse room where the victim was staying. The room was also vandalised during the abduction.
The suspects then transported the victim to an undisclosed location, demanding a ransom for his release. CCTV footage captured one of the suspects riding a motorcycle in Malé, presumably in an attempt to relocate the victim, police said.
