President Dr Mohamed Muizzu highlighted China’s significant contribution to the Maldives’ development, reaffirming the strong ties between the two countries during a ceremony held on Monday to mark China’s 75th National Day.
Speaking at the event, President Muizzu pointed to key infrastructure projects, including the Sinamalé Bridge and large-scale housing developments, as examples of China’s ongoing involvement in the Maldives’ growth. He described the relationship between the two nations as one based on “trust, respect, and sovereignty.”
“These projects are living examples of the enduring partnership between our two countries,” Muizzu said. “We have a long history of collaboration, and I am confident our relationship will only strengthen in the years to come.”
Muizzu further shared his vision for the future of Maldives-China relations, highlighting the potential for cooperation in sectors such as trade, tourism, agriculture, fisheries, renewable energy, and housing. He added that cultural exchanges between the two nations could play a key role in deepening ties.
The president praised China’s rapid economic growth, attributing the country’s success to its focus on modernisation. “China’s journey towards prosperity is a testament to the determination of its people and leadership,” he said.
Muizzu also expressed optimism about the future of Maldives-China relations, stating that he expects increased collaboration in areas such as sustainable development and security.
