President Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday appointed three members to fill vacancies at the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB).

The members appointed to the PCB by the President were Ahmed Mushtaq, specialising in Accounting and Finance; Leena Abdul Jaleel, specialising in Banking; and Moosa Fathhee Adam specialising in Business Administration.

Moosa Fathhee, who contested the 2022 parliamentary elections on a Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) ticket was appointed State Minister at the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works on Tuesday.

Leena Abdul Jaleel had been a senior official at the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) and was the Chief Executive Officer of the Business Center Corporation (BCC) under the Ministry Economic Development and Trade.

Legislatively, the PBC is required to have a quorum of five members to decide on proposed senior appointments to government companies, however the board has not had a quorum for three months.

With the appointments made to the PCB, the main obstacle to the appointment of vacant managing director positions at state-owned enterprises (SOE)s will be removed.
