According to the President’s Office, the Honour is the highest conferred by the President “in recognition of individuals who have rendered exceptional services to Maldivian nationhood” and was created by President Muizzu and awarded in accordance with executive powers vested with the President under Article 6 of the National Honours Act (Act No. 97/1).

While Salahuddin is most contemporarily known for his work on the biography of Prophet Muhammad, he had served as the Attorney General and Chief Justice of the Maldives and, among other services to the nation, went on to found Majeediyya School, where he also served as Principal.

He had also authored ‘The Story of Dhon Beefaan’ and ‘The Story of Thakurufaan the Great,’ both of which are considered Maldivian literary classics.

Salahuddin’s legacy has extended beyond his lifetime, with his children and extended family continuing to have served the state at high levels and having made significant contributions to Maldivian literature and culture.
