The Maldives Olympic Committee has designated Ahmed Faseeh, the former Commissioner of Police, as the Head of Delegation for the forthcoming Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) 2023.

Faseeh joins Chef de Mission (CdM) Abdul Nafiu Thaufeeq and Deputy Chef de Missions (DCdMs) Mohamed Jaushan Shareef and Aminath Ali, who will lead a robust contingent of nearly 300 athletes spanning nine sporting disciplines.

On Thursday, the MOC conducted final briefings with the Head of Delegation (HoD), CdM, and DCdMs, focusing on streamlining operational strategies, optimising resource allocation, and enhancing synergy among the delegation’s leadership.

During the meeting, Faseeh expressed his gratitude for the dedication of the MOC’s management team, underscoring their indispensable role in IOIG 2019’s triumph.

IOIG 2023 is hosted by Madagascar after the Maldives relinquished its hosting responsibilities due to the financial strains caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. This quadrennial multi-sport event will commence on 23 August 2023, with the Maldives aspiring to replicate its victorious streaks in multiple sports and secure gold medals.
