At the 19th Singapore National Swimming Championships 2024, Maldivian swimmer Meral Ayn Latheef broke her own national record in the women’s long course 100-metre butterfly. The 15-year-old improved her time to 01:13.96 seconds, surpassing her previous record set at the 19th Asian Games in China in 2023 by 0.03 seconds.
Latheef’s achievement marks another milestone for Maldivian swimming, underscoring her pursuit of excellence and demonstrating her dedication and rigorous training.
Earlier in February, Latheef set records in the short-course 50-metre, 100-metre, and 200-metre butterfly events and the 200-metre medley event at the Midfield and Street County Qualifying in the United Kingdom. At 15, Latheef is focusing on qualifying for the Olympic Games.
