Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer on Thursday met with US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma. The meeting, held at the ministry, underscored the strengthening partnership between the Maldives and the US, with discussions spanning a wide range of issues.

Minister Zameer and Deputy Secretary Verma reflected on the growing Maldives-US ties, focusing on their shared commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, economic prosperity, defence, and broader security cooperation. The discussion highlighted the mutual interests and shared values that underpin the bilateral relationship.

The two officials also explored ways to increase people-to-people ties, discussing simplified visa procedures and minimum hurdles. They further deliberated on potential avenues for collaboration on tourism, climate change, and other areas of mutual interest in the multilateral fora.

Minister Zameer expressed his gratitude to the US government for its eagerness to engage with the Maldives. He noted the multiple high-level engagements that have taken place since President Mohamed Muizzu took office on 17 November 2023.
